How to pick a movie for a group in 3 steps

Step 1

Swipe on your own

Tap Into it, Probably not or Never on movie cards whenever you like. Nothing's final, and every swipe teaches it your taste.

Step 2

Start a movie night

Narrow it down by genre, decade, actors or directors if you like, and choose how the group lands on a winner. Then share one link with whoever's watching.

Step 3

Match and watch

Everyone swipes the same cards. When the group agrees, you get the match and exactly where to stream, rent or buy it.

Ways to use Picly

Use one, or mix them.

  • Pick together by swiping

Swipe on your own, with one other person, or with a group, each on your own phone. When you agree, that's your match, with where to stream it.

  • Run a movie bracket

2 to 8 movies face off two at a time until one is left. Hand-pick them or swipe first. Fun on its own for settling arguments.

  • Spin the wheel

Can't choose between a few you all want? Spin, and let the wheel decide.

    Spin the movie wheel
  • I already know

Pick the movie, get where to stream, rent or buy it, and a link to share.

  • Keep a watched log

After the movie, one tap: thumbs up or down. Your Watched list builds itself. No stars, no scores.

Questions

Is Picly free?

Yes. Swiping, hosting a movie night, brackets, the wheel and your watched log are free.

What movie should we watch tonight?

Let Picly decide with you. Start a movie night, share one link, and everyone swipes. The first movie you all say yes to wins, or you can bracket or spin your matches.

Does everyone need an account?

No. Anyone with the link can join a movie night as a guest and swipe right away. The random movie generator, the movie wheel and solo brackets work without one too. Hosting a movie night, adding friends and saving to My List need a free account.

Can I use Picly on my own?

Yes. Swipe solo and Picly learns your taste, or put a few movies in a bracket or on the wheel to settle it yourself.

Does it work for just two people?

Yes. Start a movie night, send one link, and the first movie you're both into is the match.

Can it just pick a random movie?

Yes. Try the random movie generator: one tap picks a movie and shows where it's streaming. Not feeling it? Tap again. Or spin the movie wheel on a few you like.

How do you pick a movie for a group?

The host picks one of four ways: swipe to match (everyone or a majority says yes), a bracket face-off, a wheel spin, or I already know. When swiping, the first match can win, or you collect a shortlist and cut it down.

How does a movie bracket work?

Pick 2 to 8 movies yourself, or collect them by swiping. Two movies face off at a time on everyone's phone. Tap your pick: the majority goes through. Ties go to a fair tie-break, sometimes a coin flip. The last movie standing wins.

Can I keep a log of movies I've watched?

Yes. A few hours after movie night we ask how it was: thumbs up, thumbs down, or didn't watch. You can also log any movie from its page. It all lands in My List under Watched.

Can we watch together?

Watch parties are coming soon. For now, if you already know the movie, pick I already know to get where to watch and a link to share.

How do I find where to watch a movie?

Pick I already know, choose the movie, and you'll see where to stream, rent or buy it in the US, plus a link to share.

Does it know which streaming services we have?

Add your services and movie nights show what you can stream on them, with an option to include rent and buy. If nobody has added services yet, you see every movie, each labeled with where it's streaming.

What if there's a movie I never want to see?

Mark it Never. It's left out of every movie night you're in.

Do I need to download an app?

It runs in any phone or computer browser, nothing to install. Where-to-watch information is for the US for now.
