How Picly works

Picly is a small set of movie night tools. Pick a movie on your own or with a group by swiping, settle it with a movie bracket, spin the wheel, and keep a watched log. Use whichever fits tonight.

Five ways to use it

  • Pick together by swiping

Swipe on your own, with one other person, or with a group, each on your own phone. When you agree, that's your match, with where to stream it.

  • Run a movie bracket

2 to 8 movies face off two at a time until one is left. Hand-pick them or swipe first. Fun on its own for settling arguments.

  • Spin the wheel

Can't choose between a few you all want? Spin, and let the wheel decide.

  • I already know

Pick the movie, get where to stream, rent or buy it, and a link to share.

  • Keep a watched log

After the movie, one tap: thumbs up or down. Your Watched list builds itself. No stars, no scores.

Watch parties are coming soon: pick a time, share a link, and watch together.

Swipe to match in 3 steps

  1. Step 1

    Swipe on your own

Tap Into it, Probably not or Never on movie cards whenever you like. Nothing's final, and every swipe teaches it your taste.

  2. Step 2

    Start a movie night

Narrow it down by genre, decade, actors or directors if you like, and choose how the group lands on a winner. Then share one link with whoever's watching.

  3. Step 3

    Match and watch

Everyone swipes the same cards. When the group agrees, you get the match and exactly where to stream, rent or buy it.

What each swipe means

Into it
You'd watch it. Movies you're into on your own can come up in your movie nights, but the group still has to agree on the night.
Probably not
Not tonight. It can still come back later.
Never
A hard no. It's left out of every movie night you're in.

Running a movie night

  • Set it up. Optionally narrow it down by genre, decade, rating, actors or directors.
  • Pick how you'll decide. Swipe to match (the first match wins, or collect a shortlist and cut it down), a bracket face-off, a wheel spin, or I already know.
  • Bracket face-off. Hand-pick 2 to 8 movies, or swipe first and bracket your matches. Two movies at a time; tap your pick, the majority goes through. More on movie brackets.
  • No account? Start anyway. The random movie generator, the movie wheel and solo movie brackets work right away, on any phone.
  • After the movie. A few hours later we ask how it was: thumbs up, thumbs down, or didn't watch. That builds your Watched list. You can log any movie from its page too.
  • Share one link. Friends can join from the link as guests, no account needed. Joining a movie night never adds anyone as a friend.
  • Where to watch. Movie nights show what's on the group's streaming services, with an option to include rent and buy. If nobody has added services, you see every movie, labeled with where it's streaming in the US.
  • It's just for tonight. A movie night ends when you're done. Your own swipes and My List stay with your account.
